The aliens, their intentions, and other possibilities for Apollo 23

Through long experience, the aliens have learned to avoid direct contacts with primitive creatures on planets like Earth. The Huaoshy abide by a set of strict ethical guidelines (see Rules of Intervention) that allow their robotic probes to remove life form samples from planets like Earth. Using those biological samples, the Huaoshy engage in life form creation experiments, shaping the naturally occurring creatures into new forms of life. Life forms such as humans are essentially domesticated variants of naturally occurring life forms, humans having been purposefully evolved and designed by the Huaoshy as part of their effort to create a Genesaunt Culture populated by variants of Earth-derived life that the Huaoshy hope will develop into a long-lived civilization. Most creatures like humans, if left to themselves tend to destroy themselves. According to Huaoshy policies, once a Genesaunt Culture begins to develop in space near Earth, then only a few individual Genesaunts who are not detectably different from life forms on Earth are allowed to go to Earth. In this way, new gene combinations have slowly been introduced to Earth and the human species on Earth has been slowly created as a species that is now similar to the Huaoshy. The aliens try to avoid harming humans, but there are several different Huaoshy factions. Most Huaoshy adopt a "hands off" approach towards worlds like Earth. Copies of planets like Earth are made and then the Huaoshy feel free to actively shape the course of events on the copies. Two other minority factions often continue to pay attention to the original worlds such as Earth. One of these factions, known as the Interventionists, try to eliminate technology-using species from planets like Earth (see "Law Two"), allowing worlds with rich ecosystems to exist as "gardens" where life evolves naturally. In general, the Interventionists act so as to speed the rate of development of technological cultures with the goal of allowing species like humans to migrate off of their home planets. Alternatively, a technology-using species might be induced to destroy itself: in general, the Interventionists don't care either way just as long as technology-using species do not harm the ecosystems of their worlds. Another Huaoshy faction (the Aegi) does care and works to limit the Interventionists to helping species like humans while avoiding disasters such as what happened on Earth in the Olmec Reality. The Aegi have developed time travel technology and Tulghik is the Aigi agent working in the Sol System during the Apollo 23 story.

Assisting the evolution of humans on Earth is just one of many experiments that the aliens have conducted in the ~600 million year existence at Earth technology or above.

The development of Earth humans is just a side project of one alien researcher in the Interventionist faction of Huaoshy society.

For the story Apollo 23, it might not be useful to say too much about the aliens and their intentions. It might be fun to leave considerable mystery and doubt about the aliens in the minds of the readers.

OK... these are just possibilities, right now.

I made my suggestion about limited "screen time" for aliens before I saw this. I'd have no objections to including more about the aliens in this story.

Facts

HUW

A HUW is a unit of measure. It stands for human universe width. It is the diameter of the human species known Universe in the 1990's.

Character Details

This page section has important background information about characters that should not be revealed to casual readers of the story but that is important for authors.

Jill Lyons

Jill had a strong genetic predisposition for Social Anxiety Disorder. After being taken off Earth and transported into her future, she was treated by nanomedicine and cured of her SAD. Jill left the Sol System and does not appear in the story.

Sakir Querkad

Created as a clone of Jill Lyons, but some of her genes were altered by the Huaoshy. In particular, the genetic predisposition for Social Anxiety Disorder was removed and she was adjusted so as to be genetically suited for compatibility with nanote implants.
