It cannot be, among other things, other pages in Wikipedia, forums on web pages, blogs, fan sites, or the artist's home or other "official" pages. No first-party sources. --> This is a list of the fastest selling records of all time worldwide. This means that the albums listed here sold the highest number of copies worldwide in one week.
Sales in one or few countries are considered worldwide regardless of countries the album was released in at the time of its sales. Compilations and soundtracks are included, but not singles. EPs included are those not considered and promoted as singles in countries taken into account for sales. Sales taken into account are real sales as specified by national charts, not shipments to stores before or after the release of the album.
One week is a maximum of seven consecutive days, even if it includes days when stores are closed. The week chosen can start on any day, and the week must end on the same day in each country chosen. An album can appear several times in the list if it sells a large enough amount to qualify in multiple weeks..
Singer Hikaru Utada appears three separate times in the top eight positions of this list. Singer Ayumi Hamasaki and band GLAY each appear 3 times on this list. Singer Eminem and bands 'N Sync, B'z and globe each twice on this list list. Composer and producer Tetsuya Komuro is involved with three entries on this list, due to his work on albums by Namie Amuro and globe. He also composed and produced music of A song is born on Hamasaki's album I Am... which appears 13th on the list, though he did not have a major part in the rest of the album's creation.

Fastest selling albums worldwide
About the list
This list contains 22 albums since worldwide sales sources for Britney Spears's album Oops!... I Did It Again are unreliable to ensure an accurate sales figure. Spears's album may be the 19th fastest selling album.
1 by The Beatles does not appear on the list due to a lack of reliable sources stating its worldwide first week sales. Moreover, some reliable sources indicate 1 did not sell well enough to be listed here, despite strong US sales.
Many albums on this list were released in a 7-year span between 1996 and 2002, with sales peaking in 2000. This is indicated by 7 of the albums on this list being released in 2000.
The United States of America and Japan are the only countries to produce albums in this list, with the United States producing 6 and Japan producing 16. An explanation for this may be the populations of the countries and the size of each country's music market(first and second worldwide respectively). Another explanation for Japan's strong presence is the fact that Japanese record labels traditionally release singles only before the release of an album. This results in most of the sales of an album being in the first week, as opposed to the longer promotion and sretched out sales common in most other music markets.
